Description: Yin is a slow, quiet practice built around longer-held, mostly floor-based postures. Rather than continuously moving, youβll spend several minutes in each shape, giving yourself time to explore sensation, mobility and stillness without rushing.
Postures generally use very little muscular effort and may focus on areas such as the hips, hamstrings, spine and shoulders. Props can be used to make each shape appropriate for your body, and teachers will encourage you to find a sustainable level of sensation rather than pushing toward your maximum range.
Although Yin is physically slower than many other classes, that doesnβt necessarily make it effortless. The challenge often comes from staying present, remaining still and allowing the body time to respond.
